How it works

Your post office, your language, one letter a month

For authors

  1. Sign up and choose your post office

Create your author account and pick the post office near you. We approve each one by hand.

  2. Write once a month

    One letter, in your language.

  3. Post it between the 1st and the 7th

We lay out the letter and a PDF with your subscribers’ addresses. You print it, sign it and post it from your own post office.

For readers

  1. Find a post office and an author

Choose a place and the person who writes from there.

  2. Join the waitlist

Subscriptions open in November, and the first letters go out in December 2026.

  3. Get a real letter every month

A paper letter from the author’s city, in your mailbox.

Ordinary letters have no tracking number, so we can’t promise an exact delivery date. A letter usually arrives within a month.

Letters are delivered to the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia.

How it started

Madrid

A walk past the post office

On 9 October 2026, World Post Day, I walked past the post office in the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid. The building opened in 1919 as the city’s main post and telegraph office, the Palacio de Comunicaciones. Since 2007 it has been Madrid City Hall, and the post office is still there.

And I wondered when I had last received a real letter.

That’s where the idea came from: people in every city writing a letter every month and posting it from their own post office.

I spent the next three days building it. And here it is — Quelper Homingway.

Why now

Three facts we keep in mind

The name

Why “Homingway”

A homing pigeon is the bird that always finds its way home. Homingway is that way: every letter leaves its author’s post office and finds its way to a reader’s home.

Is there a post office near you?

Find it on the map. If nobody writes from it yet, it could be you.

The first letters go out in December 2026.
