Cookie Policy

Effective Date: 7 October 2026

Version cookies@2026-10-07 · Last updated: 7 October 2026.

This policy explains which cookies and similar browser storage Quelper (run by Quelper LLC) uses on quelper.com, what loads from other companies’ servers, and how you choose. Read it together with our Privacy Policy.

1. In short

  • Some items are needed for the site to work: signing in, remembering your cookie choice and your language. They are always on.
  • Two things are optional, and you decide on each one separately: Analytics (Google Analytics) and Maps (Google Maps and Mapbox). Both stay off until you switch them on.
  • Videos from YouTube and Vimeo load without a choice in the banner, in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode and with Vimeo’s Do Not Track setting (section 4.5).
  • Some features keep small items in your browser, such as drafts, the referral code from a link you followed and a mute switch. The banner does not control them. They are listed in section 4.2.
  • Our own visit counter uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device, but it does make your browser send us a short notice for each page you view. The banner does not switch it off; section 5 explains what it records and how to object.

2. What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small piece of text that a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Local storage and session storage are similar places in your browser where a site can keep data: local storage until it is cleared, session storage until you close the tab. In this policy, “cookies” covers all three.

3. How your choice works

  • Until you choose. Analytics and Maps are off for every visitor, wherever you are, until you switch them on.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends GPC, Analytics and Maps stay off until you switch them on yourself, as they do for everyone.
  • The banner stays at the bottom of the page until you choose. It has two buttons of equal size, “Reject non-essential” and “Accept all”, and a “Customize” option (on phones, a link in the banner text) that opens a panel with a separate switch for each category, set to what is currently in effect.
  • The button on a map. Where a map is held back, its placeholder has a “Show map” button. Pressing it switches Maps on for the whole site, keeps Analytics as it currently is, saves the result as your choice and closes the banner.
  • Where your choice is kept. In the cookie_consent cookie, for 12 months, whether you accepted or refused. When it expires, or if you delete it, the banner asks again. We also keep a copy on our server as proof of your choice: what you chose, the policy version and the time; if you allowed something, also your IP address, your browser’s user agent and a random browser ID. A refusal is kept without them (Privacy Policy, section 2.12).
  • Changing your mind. Use here, or the same link in the footer of the home page, the About page, the Community page and the discovery pages, or in section 8 of the Privacy Policy; all of them open the same panel. You can also delete the cookie_consent cookie in your browser to bring the banner back.
  • After you switch something off. Maps disappear straight away. While Analytics is off, we tell Google Analytics not to collect anything (its own opt-out setting) and delete its cookies on quelper.com (_ga and _ga_<ID>); if you switch it off while it is running in the page, we also reload the page, so that its script is gone.
  • When this policy changes. If we add a purpose or a provider that needs your consent, or change what a choice covers, the banner asks you again. From 7 October 2026 it asks again everyone whose saved choice switched Analytics or Maps on, because some choices saved before 5 October 2026 were saved without a click on that switch (for example by pressing “Show map” or “Load the video” while those categories were on by default outside Europe), and they cannot be told apart from the others. Refusals saved before then still apply. Until 5 October 2026, embedded video was a third category; any choice you made about it is no longer used.

4.2 Functional storage

These items belong to particular features of Quelper. The banner does not switch them off. Some are written when you take an action, such as writing a draft; the referral code is written as soon as you arrive through a referral link, and the post-view marker when you open a post.

NameType and providerPurposeHow long
quelper.refLocal storage; QuelperRemembers the referral code from the link you followed, so that the discount it offers applies if you join within 30 days; the same code tells us who referred you, for the referrer’s commission.30 days; an expired code is ignored and removed the next time the site reads it

Its script is not loaded until this category is on. See how Google uses cookies.

4.4 Maps (your choice)

mapbox.eventData…Local storage on quelper.com; written by the Mapbox mapMapbox’s usage statistics for the community member map. Mapbox also receives map-tile and usage requests from your browser.Set by Mapbox

4.5 Embedded video (no choice in the banner)

Lessons, posts, community pages, events, blog posts and course descriptions can contain videos from YouTube and Vimeo. Videos are part of the content you open, so they need no choice in the banner: article 22.2 of Spain’s Law 34/2002 (LSSI) does not require consent for what is strictly necessary to provide content you ask for. We always embed YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (the youtube-nocookie.com address) and Vimeo with its Do Not Track setting. In community feeds and for a community’s intro video, the player loads only when you press play; on lessons, community pages, events, blog posts and course descriptions it loads with the page.

NameType and providerPurposeHow long
Storage inside the YouTube playerBrowser storage and cookies; Google (YouTube)Plays the video. The player can store data in your browser when it loads, and cookies may be set once you press play. In privacy-enhanced mode, Google says it does not use the view to personalise your YouTube experience.Set by Google
Vimeo playerVimeoPlays the video. The Do Not Track setting tells the player not to track the session, including with cookies such as vuid.Set by Vimeo

Whenever a player or a video’s preview image loads, YouTube or Vimeo sees your IP address and information about your browser (Privacy Policy, section 2.14).

5. Not cookies, but worth knowing

  • Our visit counter. For each page you view, your browser sends our server the page path, your language and the site you came from, without any cookies. It sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser; our server derives a daily visitor code from your IP address and user agent without storing either. We use it only for our own statistics about Quelper and do not share it (Privacy Policy, section 2.13, which also says how long rows are kept). The banner and GPC do not switch it off; you can object at any time by writing to us.
  • Error reports sent to Sentry set no cookies (Privacy Policy, section 2.15).
  • Location and address lookups. Setting your location on a community map, and the address search in the service editor, contact Mapbox or Google when you use them, whatever your Maps setting (Privacy Policy, sections 2.5 and 2.14). If you refuse your browser’s location request, nothing is looked up.
  • Images from other sites, such as DiceBear placeholder avatars, Unsplash images and images that creators link to, are fetched by your browser from those sites, which see your IP address.
  • Stripe. We do not load Stripe on quelper.com. When you pay or set up payouts you go to Stripe’s own pages, where Stripe sets its own cookies (such as __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid) under the Stripe Cookie Policy.

6. Other companies’ policies

Cookies and storage set by other companies are governed by their own policies: Supabase, Google (including YouTube and Google Maps), Mapbox, Vimeo and Stripe. Google, Mapbox and Vimeo are based in the United States and receive data there; the safeguards are described in section 5 of our Privacy Policy.

7. Managing cookies in your browser

Besides the banner, your browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data. Deleting cookie_consent brings the banner back. While Analytics is off we delete Google’s _ga cookies on quelper.com ourselves (section 3); deleting them in your browser does the same. Blocking the strictly necessary items will stop you from signing in.

8. Changes and contact

When this policy changes, we update the version and date at the top and keep the previous text. Previous versions: cookies@2026-10-05, cookies@2026-10-03 and cookies@2026-09-08 (its page was dated 5 June 2026); ask us for any of them. Questions: s.alekhin@quelper.com.
